The phosphate-stimulated growth of stony corals provides significant advantages compared to algae and cyanobacteria. Iron and nitrogen concentrations in the water are effectively reduced. This means that a good phosphate supply with concentration levels of around 0.1 mg/l (ppm) will tend to inhibit the effect on the growth of algae and cyanobacteria.
