Scolymia australis, commonly known as the Reverse Bleeding Apple coral, is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant colours and unique patterning. This extra large specimen offers a stunning focal point for mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate to low lighting is preferred to maintain optimal colouration and health. Avoid intense direct light which may cause bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to ensure adequate nutrient delivery without damaging the delicate polyps.
Placement: Position on the substrate or lower rockwork with sufficient space around it to prevent aggression towards neighbouring corals. This species requires at least 10cm clearance from other corals to avoid stinging interactions.
Care Level: Intermediate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and regular feeding to thrive.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae but benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods 1-2 times weekly.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or fast-growing SPS species.
Regular monitoring of water quality, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, is essential to support skeletal growth and overall health.
