HI707 Details:
The HI-707 Nitrite Checker is a highly accurate low range tester for nitrite in freshwater and saltwater aquariums. This digital handheld Checker provides the information required to monitor the nitrogen cycle within marine and freshwater fish tanks. With coverage for an extremely low range of nitrite from 0 to 600 ppb, identifying small changes in nitrate levels can allow for fast response to potentially harmful build-up.
A Hanna Checker for nitrate is an ideal alternative to aquarium nitrate test kits that require visual comparison, providing a clear digital readout with single-button operation for reliable measurement.

The HI-707 Checker is a practical, handheld electronic tester for measuring the low range of nitrite within both marine and freshwater fish tanks. This versatile, easy-to-use Checker uses a 10 ml water sample from your fish tank that is introduced to a specialised reagent for accurate measurement. A simple, single-button operation allows for quick insight into the current nitrate levels within your aquarium with clear and precise digital results.
The HI-707 tester covers the low range for nitrite testing, from 0.0-600 ppb in NOsub2-/subN. This Checker kit includes the single AAA battery required for continual testing, with an auto-shut-off feature following 10 minutes of inactivity for longer battery life.
Why measure nitrite?
Nitrite is a part of the nitrogen cycle, and naturally occurs in both fresh and saltwater aquariums when ammonia is broken down by bacteria, typically in your biological filter. Any level of nitrite above 0 can be harmful to your fish as this chemical binds with the haemoglobin in the bloodstream, reducing the amount of oxygen the fish can access. Nitrite toxicity is sometimes referred to as ‘brown blood disease’, due to the change in the colour of the fish’s blood.
Measuring nitrite with a low range colorimeter tester provides immediate insight into whether the levels in your tank are too high, covering a comprehensive range. Nitrite is not visible in the water, making regular monitoring important to make swift changes to your aquarium water chemistry for the health of your fish.
How does the HI-707 work?
The HI-707 low range nitrite Checker uses an adaptation of the EPA Diazotisation method 354.1. In this method, the reagents provided with the electronic nitrite tester create a measurable reaction with the 10 ml sample of aquarium water. This reaction causes a pink tint in the sample vial, which the Checker reads to provide an accurate, digital readout that reflects the nitrite levels within your tank.
The HI-707 includes a starter kit for reagents with 6 tests, so you can start testing the nitrite in your aquarium immediately out of the box.

Checkers vs test strips
Test strips are a popular choice for many aquarium owners as a way to monitor key aquarium water parameters. However, testing strips rely on visual perception to determine the results of testing, which may lead to your fish tank water being under or over-dosed. Hanna Checkers provide reliable, digital results directly on-screen for pinpoint accuracy in fish tank water quality testing.
