Temperament: Generally peaceful but may show territorial behaviour. Compatible with other large, non-aggressive fish.

Diet: Carnivorous. Requires a varied diet of fresh seafood such as shrimp, squid, and fish fillets. Feeding should be frequent and carefully monitored.

Minimum Tank Size: At least 600 litres (approximately 130 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and maintain water quality.

Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient; no special lighting needed.

Water Flow: Moderate water flow to mimic natural coastal currents.

Placement: Bottom to mid-level swimmer. Provide a sandy substrate and ample open swimming areas.

Origin: Eastern Pacific, primarily off the coast of California.

Maximum Size: Up to 1.2 metres in the wild; smaller specimens are recommended for aquarium keeping.

Reef Safe: No. This species is not suitable for reef tanks due to its predatory nature.
